Gypsy Code

Found here: http://tuirse.wordpress.com/2009/06/18/some-thoughts-on-the-gypsy-code/

  • Honor and respect your family and community with all your mind, with all your heart, and with all your strength (if necessary)
  • Keep to the traditions and customs you have been taught. This keeps you close to family, no matter where you travel.
  • Conflicts between family members stay within the family. They are to be resolved within the clan.
  • Do not reveal the traditions or customs or identity of your clan to outsiders until they have earned your trust several times over
  • Pass along these traditions and customs to your children. In this way, the spark of family will never be extinguished.
  • Always treat your sources of food and water with respect.
  • Mind the laws of where you travel, so long as they do not violate clan obligations or code.
  • You are Rom before you are anything else. Be mindful of that in all your dealings with Gadje and other clans.
  • Honor and respect the gods and spirits that come to you.
  • Take pride in your heritage and those of your bloodline.
  • Honor the imminent and transcendent divinity.
  • Put the welfare of others before yourself.
  • Love unconditionally
  • Keep the laws of cleanliness
  • Look through both your eyes and that of your enemies when quarrel arises.

I find this list kind of amazing and I want to make this The Gilded Thorn's guidelines for all band members. Of which we reserve the right to add amendments or revisions as we see fit.
